COMPETITION: SOUTHWEST OREGON SHORT FILM & VIDEO COMPETITION

Deadline: December 1, 2008. The Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA) announces its fifth annual Southwest Oregon Short Film & Video Competition. This is the signature event of the OpenLens Festival weekend. It provides an opportunity for Southwest Oregon film and video makers to showcase their work in a competitive event. Prizes include Best Juried and Audience Choice Awards.

Criteria:

  1. Categories include but are not limited to narrative, documentary, animation, and experimental.
  2. Submissions are accepted from film and video artists living in the counties of Benton, Coos, Curry, Deschutes, Douglas, Lane, Linn, Jackson, Josephine, or Klamath.

  3. Length: 15 minutes or LESS with films under 10 minutes preferred.

  4. Entries, regardless of the original format, must be transferred to DVD before being submitted.

  5. Only ONE submission per filmmaker will be accepted.

  6. It is understood that each submitting artist is responsible for all copyright and permission clearance in his/her entry and that DIVA accepts no responsibility for copyright or permission infringement.

  7. DIVA requests the right to compile the submitted movies into a touring show or for display on the Internet for one year.

Submission Information:

  1. All submitted work must mailed or hand delivered to DIVA by December 1, 2008.

  2. Download and complete an entry submission form available here as a (PDF).

  3. Please make out your $15 entry fee check or money order to: DIVA SW Film/Video Competition.

  4. All entries are to be submitted on a DVD and clearly marked with name, contact information, video title, and length

  5. Mail or hand deliver your entry form, disc, and entry fee by stated deadline to:

  6. Include a SSAE for return of discs. No item returned without a stamped and self-addressed envelope.

Rules and Responsibilities: By completing the Southwest Oregon Short Film and Video Competition entry form entrants understand that:
  1. Only those films selected by the Judges will be screened during the festival. Artists will be notified either way as to whether or not their work has been accepted as part of the final program.

  2. Each submitting artist is responsible for all copyright and permission clearance in his/her entry and that DIVA accepts no responsibility for copyright or permission infringement. Each entrant must be able to present completed permission forms upon request.

  3. The DIVA Center reserves the right to compile all entries accepted as part of the 2009 OpenLens Festival program for purposes of programming. By virtue of having their work accepted into the 2009 OpenLens Festival program, all selected artists acknowledge the DIVA Center's right to screen repeatedly without limitation the 2009 compilation of winners at the DIVA Center and at other venues of DIVA's choosing up to one year from when the 2009 OpenLens Festival ends. It is further understood by all entrants that the DIVA Center shall retain a permanent copy of the 2009 OpenLens Festival compilation for archival purposes.

  4. It is understood that if an entry is accepted for the 2009 program, the submitting artist will receive one Filmmakers Festival Pass. Tickets for family, friends, and colleagues may be purchased on a first come first serve basis at the door.

The SW Oregon Short Film & Video Festival accepts work by artists living in the counties of Benton, Coos, Curry, Deschutes, Douglas, Lane, Linn, Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath. This includes Florence to the West, Bend to the East, Corvallis-Albany to the North and Medford and Klamath Falls to the south.
