2010 YOUTH VISIONS TEEN VIDEO CHALLENGE
DIVA's 2010 Youth Visions Teen Video Challenge celebrates the work of young videomakers in Lane County. Each year teens submit work that is reviewed by a panel of video professionals and educators. Those videos that demonstrate the most creative, effective and skillful responses to the call for entries will be screened and awarded prizes at a special session of the OpenLens 2010 Festival held at the DIVA Center in Eugene. Winning videos will go on to be shown at other festivals and events as part of a 2010 Youth Visions Festival compilation.
Prizes include:
- First Place - Jury Prize: $200
- Second Place - Jury Prize: $150
- Third Place - Jury Prize: $100
- Audiience Choice Awards $50
Call For Entries: DIVA's Youth Visions Teen Video Challenge is accepting short narrative, animation, music, experimental, or documentary videos. The challenge is open to all youth ages 13-18 living in Lane County. The entry registration and video submission deadline is December 11, 2009.
Criteria:
- This year's suggested themes include: nature, journey, and hope. Entrants may also select a topic or theme of their own. We have had narrative, animated, documentary, and experimental videos submitted in the past.
- Submitted videos can be made by an individual or by a collaborative group (movies are rarely made alone).
- Original music or sound track is STRONGLY recommended to avoid copyright issues with the music industry (see FAQ below.) Each submitting artist is responsible for all copyright and permission clearances in his/her entry and that DIVA accepts no responsibility for copyright or permission infringement. Each entrant must be able to present completed permission forms upon request.
- Videos are to be 5 minutes or less in length. Only one video per submitted DVD. All entries are to be clearly marked with name, contact information, video title, and length.
- You may enter more than one video. However, each video must be submitted on a separate DVD. Each entry must include a separate $5 administrative fee plus registration form.
- It is understood that by submitting a video the videomaker has given DIVA permission to compile the submitted work into a touring program that will be made available free to other venues for screening. No compensation other than the promotion of a videomaker's work is implied.
Deadline: December 11, 2009
- All videos are to be submitted on a DVD. Only one video per disc. Each video is considered a seperate entry and must include the required forms and fees.
- Download, fill-out, and submit an Entry Form (PDF) for each video submitted.
- Include with your entry a non-refundable $5 registration fee for each video you will be submitting. Make your check out to: DIVA Center Teen Video Challenge.

Q. Is there free music that I can use in my video?
A. Yes, check out the Creative Commons web site for legal music for videos. There are many musicians who make their music free for others to use. Also check out Archive. org as a resource for public domain video and audio.
Q. Is there free video and still images I can use?
A. Yes, again check out the Creative Commons web site for links to free collections of video clips and still images.
Q. I need to edit audio but can't afford an audio editing program - what can I do?
A. Yes, Audacity is a free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems.
Q. Is there free software available for photo, text, and video editing?
A. Yes, check out the free production software page on the Youth Visions Project web site.
